What to expect from the Occupational Therapy Service
We work together with yourselves and the child/young person to understand what is:
- meaningful to them
- what helps them with their participation
- what might make it hard for them to join in in the way they wish to
We will set clear goals based on the child/young person’s. This is often done at the first appointment using a mixture of:
- conversations and visuals
- via an online consultation known as ‘Attend Anywhere’
- by using coaching methods on the telephone
We may offer your child:
- their chosen assessment in a setting, such as school, home or a park
- information and advice
- group sessions
- targeted sessions at their school or children's centre
- specialist therapy sessions
Contribute to their:
- Educational Health and Care Plans (EHCP)
- Transition Plan
Recommend specialist equipment, such as:
- cutlery
- writing aids
- seating
And provide assessment and recommendations for their home environment.
We would like to help your child meet their occupational potential and learn to thrive as independently as possible. We work closely with those important people around the child/young person (such as nursery and school) to ensure they know how best to the child/young person in their occupations. Once the child/young person’s chosen goals are achieved, your child may be discharged.
