SEND Sensory Service
The Visually Impaired Team and the Hearing-Impaired Team are now known as the Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) Sensory Service.
The Sensory Service has specialist teachers and support staff who work with children and young people with:
- Hearing Impairment (HI)
- Vision Impairment (VI)
- Multi-sensory Impairment (MSI) - The term multi-sensory impairment is used when a child or young person is either:
- deaf and hearing impaired
- blind and visual impaired
The SEND Sensory Service
The Service works with children and young people from 0 to 25 years who have a medically diagnosed impairment.
The service:
- visit schools, homes and settings
- give advice to families and schools
- teach and model strategies
- support the use of a variety of technological aids
- carry out assessments and observations
- provide training to schools and settings.
The service decide how often to visit based on each child or young person's needs.
