The LADO works in accordance with statutory guidance which seeks to ensure inter-agency working to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. The guidance requires that all Councils have a LADO service to manage and oversee allegations against people who work with children.

What information we collect
Your personal data will be included in referrals. This is so we can establish sufficient information to progress allegation management.
We need special category data from you. This includes:
- racial/ethnic origin
- trade union membership
- data concerning health
- sexual orientation
We will share LADO information with law enforcement agencies where referrals relate to criminality.
How we collect your data
Information referred to LADO is assessed to establish if it meets the criteria for recording as a referral associated with an individual working in positions of trust with children. Where the threshold for recording is met a personal record will be created. It will include the details of the person, the referrer and the employer along with any associated information considered relevant to the referral.
Why we collect your data
The LADO collects personal, special category personal or criminal/law enforcement data to enable it to identify and record sufficient data for the management of allegations against adults who work with children.
In accordance with 'Working Together to Safeguard Children', the LADO has oversight of individual cases as well as providing advice and guidance to employers and voluntary organisations, liaising with the police and other agencies and monitoring the progress of cases to ensure that they are dealt with as quickly as possible.
The collection of the data specified is necessary for the LADO to carry out its statutory duties.
Who we collect data from
To provide the LADO personal, special category personal or criminal/law enforcement data may be collected from or about the following:
- businesses, customers and suppliers
- carers or representatives
- claimants
- complainants, enquirers or their representatives
- healthcare users
- landlords
- licence and permit holders
- offenders and suspected offenders
- patients
- people captured by CCTV images
- professional advisers and consultants
- recipients of benefits
- representatives of other organisations
- staff, persons contracted to provide a service
- councillors
- students and pupils
- traders and others subject to inspection
- witnesses
- speaking members of public at committee meetings, including virtual committee meetings
- other departments within the council
LADO may receive personal, special category personal or criminal/law enforcement data about you from the third parties mentioned above and other public bodies and organisations. In this case, we will tell you the source of the information unless we are unable to do so by law.
