School Admissions is a statutory service within the council which coordinates applications for primary, junior and secondary places. The service also provides presenting officers for school admission appeals.
What information we collect
We’re required to process either your personal, special category and sensitive or criminal and law enforcement data. This is to meet legal obligations and make robust recommendations and decisions.
Personal data requirements
Children
We need some personal data from children. This includes:
- full name
- preferred name
- current address
- new address
- placement address
- date of birth
- age
- year group
- sex
- current or previous school
- schools applied for
Parents
We need some personal data from parents. This includes:
- name
- relationship to child
- contact telephone number
- email address
- whether the person making the application has parental responsibility
- waiting list requests
- supporting evidence
Siblings
We need some personal data from siblings. This includes:
- names
- dates of birth of any sibling attending the school being applied for
Special category data
We need some special category data from you. This includes:
- Child in Care (LAC) EHCP/SEND status, including details of any other agency involvement
- confirmation of refugee/asylum status
- exclusion and attendance rates in education
- supporting evidence
Criminal and law enforcement data
We do not need any criminal and law enforcement data from you.

We collect your data so we can manage the statutory School Admissions and Appeals Service. We do this by coordinating applications for primary, junior and secondary places.

We may receive personal, special category personal or criminal and law enforcement data about you from the third parties mentioned above and other public bodies and organisations. In this case, we will tell you the source of the information unless we are unable to do so by law.
