We are committed to providing targeted careers information, advice and guidance to help young people take part in education, training and work.

The contract focuses on increasing participation in education and training, reducing the number of young people who are Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) or whose status is unknown, and making sure vulnerable young people get the support they need. We help young people move successfully into adulthood and encourage them to be ambitious about their future education, training and employment. Support is tailored to each young person’s individual needs.

The service supports: 

  • children looked after 
  • care leavers up to the age of 25 
  • children with a Social Worker 
  • children with special educational needs who are in receipt of an Education Health Care Plan (EHCP) up to age 25 
  • children attending Pupil Referral Units (PRU) and young people who are accessing Hospital and Home Tuition (HHT) to year 11 
  • elective home educated young people to Year 11 
  • young people Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) including young people whose activity is ‘Not Known’, or who are at risk of not being in education, employment or training

What information we collect

We need some personal data from you. This includes:

  • name 
  • address 
  • postcode 
  • date of birth 
  • telephone number 
  • email address 
  • academic year 
  • sex gender identifier 
  • living habits 
  • mobile phone number 
  • marital status 
  • physical description

We need some special category data from you. This includes:

  • education and professional training
  • employment information 
  • family, lifestyle and social circumstance 
  • physical and mental health condition
  • racial and ethnic origin
  • sexual orientation

We do not need any criminal and law enforcement data from you.

How we collect your data 

We’ll collect data from you by an electronic system form.

Why we collect your data

We collect your data so we can provide a robust targeted Careers Information Advice and Guidance service. This includes:

  • provision of a Careers Information, Advice and Guidance (CIAG) service for the most vulnerable young people
  • working with education and training partners to ensure all young people at 16 and 17 have a suitable offer of learning known as the September Guarantee
  • ensuring the ‘tracking’ and reporting to DfE of the destinations and activity status of all young people aged 16 and 17, and for targeted vulnerable young people up to aged 25 
  • through ‘tracking’ identify young people at 16 and 17 who are Not in Education, Employment or Training (NEET) and support into Education, Employment and/or Training (EET)
  • ensuring ‘suitable and sufficient’ provision to meet the participation needs of young people

Who we collect data from 

We collect data from:

  • carers or representatives 
  • professional advisers and consultants
  • representatives of other organisations
  • staff, persons contracted to provide a service 
  • students and pupils
  • other departments within the council

We may receive personal, special category personal or criminal and law enforcement data about you from the third parties mentioned above and other public bodies and organisations.  In this case, we will tell you the source of the information unless we are unable to do so by law.

Who we share your personal data with

We may share your personal, special category personal or criminal and law enforcement data with:

  • data processors 
  • educators and examining bodies 
  • employees and agents of the data controller 
  • family, associates or representatives of the person whose personal data we are processing. Such as next of kin, Power of Attorney, and guardians 
  • local and central government departments 
  • Local Government Ombudsman and Information Commissioner 
  • partner agencies, approved organisations and individuals working with the police 
  • professional advisers and consultants 
  • professional bodies 
  • regulatory bodies

We process special category personal data under the condition of UKGDPR Article 9(2) (b) Employment/social security and social protection.
